    The Neobuxbaumia polylopha is a tall, solitary, pale green and columnar cactus. At full maturity, this impressive plant reaches heights of approximately 42' with an approximate diameter of 14". The Neobuxbaumia polylopha has between 20 - 50 (somewhat rounded), ribs. Its areolas are small and white-felted. Spines are yellow with 7 to 9 radials that are typically between a 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch long. Flowers bloom nocturnally during the summer months. Its flowers are slightly varying, beautiful shades of red.

     

    It appreciates abundant water during the summer and, during it's growing period but allow to dry fully before watering again, light shade when young, full sun later. In mild climate they can be grown in rock gardens in full sun, in dry and sandy soils.
